The Fastest Jazz In The World?

In an exciting new development, Honda Australia will race two Honda Jazz in the 2012 Bosch Australian Rally Championship.

Designed to G2 specifications, the new Jazz combine the very best in Australian and European engineering, with specifications found in many World Rally Championship cars.

The Mugen-tuned 2 litre engine delivers 183 kilowatts at 9000 RPM and 193 Newton metres of torque.

Honda will be entering a second driver combination alongside Eli Evans and Glen Weston, to be announced early next year.

Honda Australia spokesperson, Lindsay Smalley said the new cars could take Honda from challengers to champions. “We are excited about the next year of rallying. Racing is in Honda’s DNA. These rally cars are modified with the best engineering from Australia and Europe. Fitted with Mugen engines, these may well be the fastest Jazz in the world!

“Honda is proud to continue its support of Australian rallying and we hope next season will be even better than the last. As our founder Mr. Honda said, if Honda does not race, there is no Honda,” Mr. Smalley said.

Scott Pedder, CEO of the Bosch ARC welcomed Honda’s expanded commitment to the Championship and congratulated the company on its initiative. “Honda has to be commended for leading the way and being the first to commit to the new formula.

“The Honda Civic Type R that Eli Evans and Glen Weston campaigned over the past two years has become a crowd favourite at rallies around the country, because of how exciting it looks on the stages and the great sound it makes. These new cars are going to look even better.

“The renderings of the new Honda Jazz G2 are very exciting and give a strong indication of how the new generation of two-wheel drive rally cars will look. I am sure they will fire the imagination of rally enthusiasts,” Pedder said.

Six rounds will comprise the 2012 season, with a ‘Rally Showcase’ at Calder Park in Victoria to mark the start of the season in March.

Guy Wilks Lands Manufacturer Drive

UK Rally driver Guy Wilks has landed one of the top drives in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) for 2011, driving a Peugeot S2000 spec 207.

Wilks started rallying when he was 19 and competed in the Junior World Rally Championship (JWRC) and was the British Rally Champion in 2007 and 2008.

During 2008 Wilks also competed in two rounds of the Australian Rally Championship (ARC) in a Honda Civic Type R, as part of test program for Honda Australia, who at the time was looking at entering the ARC full time.

His first experience in the IRC was in 2009, which led to a drive with Skoda UK in 2010.

Wilks’s co driver since 2003, Phil Pugh, will join him on the Peugeot UK team.

Should be interesting to watch Wilks progress next year as the IRC is really starting to turn into the championship to watch

Rally Qld 2009 – Pre Event

Queensland is one of favorite events of the year on the ARC Calender. You cant beat the weather and the location on the Sunshine Coast.
This year the event has a new feel to it as it is the new Australian round of the Asia Pacific Rally Championship. So we have 10 extra entries for the event.
It will be good to see Cody Crocker back on our shores competing with the Aus Rally Championship drivers.
Off to do Reccy in the morning, only some small changes to last years course, so reccy shouldn’t take too long hopefully.

Rally of Canberra 2008 – Shakedown

Well here I am in cold Canberra. Arrived last night

Reccy was today. Started early today. Met Bob Seary from Team TRD this morning at 6:15am to head into the stages. We spent the morning checking the 3 stages west of Canberra’s CBD. After lunch we headed over to the 4 stages which are near the service park.

We found some nice spots, with some jumps, watersplashes and some great dust. So the Saturday and Sunday should result in some good shots

Media day and shakedown is tommorow morning. Again it will be a nice early start, leaving hotel at 7am.

After media day, Im helping out my boss the Operations manger for the ARC, with putting out signage for the event, for the the tv crews to use. I also helped him put togther the media backdrop sign tonight as the event sponsors ar different for each event and needed to be changed

Check back over the weekend as I update at the end of each day, hopefully
